An oral tumor is a growth that develops in the mouth. These tumors can vary in size and severity, and can occur in any part of the mouth, including the tongue, lips, gums, and cheeks. Oral tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous), and it is important to have them properly diagnosed and treated.
What are the symptoms of an oral tumor?
Symptoms of an oral tumor can include a sore or lump in the mouth, difficulty swallowing or speaking, pain or numbness in the mouth, and bleeding or changes in the appearance of the mouth. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible.
How is an oral tumor diagnosed?
At Holton OMFS, we use a combination of methods to diagnose oral tumors, including a physical examination of the mouth, imaging tests such as X-rays or CT scans, and biopsy. A biopsy is the removal of a small sample of tissue for examination under a microscope. This allows us to determine if the tumor is benign or malignant and determine the best course of treatment.
What are the treatment options for oral tumors?
The treatment options for oral tumors will depend on the type and severity of the tumor. Benign tumors can often be treated with surgery to remove the tumor. Malignant tumors may require a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and/or chemotherapy. Our team of experts will work with you to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs.
